Cenerentola Orcia Doc 2017

Cenerentola (Cinderella) like the young girl in the fairytale has two older and richer sisters who get invited to the Prince’s ball while she has to stay at home. The Cenerentola wine belongs to an appellation called Orcia born on February 14th 2000 (Valentine’s Day) between the territories of the Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Orcia region is consequently the youngest, between the “sisters”, that get invited to the tables of prices and kings.

The magic that brings Cenerentola to beat her sisters and wine over the Prince charming is a Tuscan grape variety abandoned about a century ago, the Foglia Tonda, that together with Sangiovese forms a very intriguing blend: the first is elegant the second is powerful. Donatella Cinelli Colombini, practically in the role of the fairy in the tale wagers on this strange couple and it takes her 15 years to create a wine: from the cultivation of the vines, harvesting, vinification and barrel ageing. A tenacious job that is now bringing up the sales figures and the reviews from the international wine critics: 93/100 from Wine Spectator and 91/100 from Wine Advocate with the 2016 vintage. Cenerentola is becoming a cult wine, different from any other and with a little crown on the label because, just as in the fairytale, this wine now has its Prince Charming

2017: the most Mediterranean vintage ever seen in Tuscany that has produced wines that are very sensual, warm, powerful and able to express themselves best in youth, this is Cenerentola Doc Orcia.
